The thesis consists of two parts. The first one is a translation of a chapter from the book Räuber und Beute written by the German zoologist Michael Schröpel. The book was published in 1985 in Leipzig. The second part of this thesis is a commentary of the translation. The aim was to create a functionally equivalent translation. The commentary includes translation analysis of the source text based on the model of Christiane Nord, translation method and translation procedures, typology of translation problems and their solution and typology of translations shifts that occurred due preservation of the function of the source text.

The birth of an industry

The aim of this thesis is to translate the chapter The birth of an industry written by Douglas Bruster for the publication The Cambridge History of British Theatre. This thesis further contains a commentary of the translation. The first part of the commentary is devoted to translation analysis of the original text, the second part concentrates on description of the translation problems and their solutions. This thesis is concluded by a typology of translation shifts.

Reading film and literature

The first aim of this thesis is to translate Brian McFarlane's essay, Reading film and literature from The Cambridge Companion to Literature on Screen, so that it can be accepted by the Czech reader. Its second task is to comment on this translation; the commentary itself is conveniently arranged in three parts. The first part is dedicated to the translation analysis of the original text, its composition and to the relevance of the source context to the target recipient. The second part methodically describes problems that arose during the translation process and outlines their solution. The last part gives an account of the typology of translation shifts and tries to give reasons for their occurrence.

The thesis consists of a Czech translation of the first chapter, Introductory: Language Defined, from Language: An Introduction to the Study of Speech (New York: 1921, Harcourt, Brace and Company) by Edward Sapir and of a commentary on the translation. The commentary consists of a translation analysis of the source text, typology of translation problems and their solutions, and typology of translation shifts. The translation method was chosen based on the analysis, which was based on the method of Ch. Nord. The main objective of the translation was to preserve the informative function of the source text and it's style with regard to the documentary function of the translation and the conventions and constraints of the target language.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is a translation of a chapter titled Prinuditel'nyje migracii i Vtoraja mirovaja vojna from a Pavel Polyan's book Ne po svojej vole: Istorija i geografija prinuditel'nych migracij v SSSR and the analysis and commentary of this translation. The commentary consists of four parts. The first part contains an analysis of the source text using the model of Christiane Nord, taking into account also the cathegories used in Czech stylistics. The second part describes the conception of translation and the chosen translation method. The next part deals with problems that occured during the process of translation and their solutions. The last part deals with the translation shifts.
